Renault Duster

Renault Duster cars are equipped with an onboard processor that allows you to monitor the status of the electrical circuit of individual components and the status of sensors. Critical faults are displayed as lit indicators on the dashboard display.

The integrated digital system allows testing of some elements by means of a test mode. Full information on existing faults can be obtained using external mobile devices or stationary diagnostic equipment.

Self-diagnosis

Onboard processors of all Renault Duster models have the ability to test mode. To enter the self-test mode, you must perform a certain sequence of operations:

  • Insert the key into the ignition lock.
  • On the dashboard, press and hold the reset button of the daily run in this position.
  • Simultaneously start the engine.
  • Simultaneously start the engine.
  • Release the button only after the test mode is activated. This will be noticeable by the intermittent movement of the speedometer and tachometer arrows.
  • The display of the dashboard will display data in the form of four consecutive information boards; information is changed by briefly pressing the reset button:
    • the on-board digital system index is displayed first;
    • when you press the dashboard again, the test mode of the signal lamps and all segments of the display that are not working will not be activated will appear;
    • with the third press on the display, information on the remaining fuel in the tank is displayed; if the electric circuit is damaged, the “—-” sign will be displayed on the screen;the instant fuel consumption is displayed next;

      the fifth press shows damage to the electrical circuit of the oil level sensors, fuel and coolant; the following characters appear:

Renault Duster error codes on dashboard

d – violation in the circuit of the fuel consumption sensor,
h – damage to the engine oil level sensor circuit,
J – fault in the electrical circuit of the fuel level sensor,
T – fault in the electrical circuit of the temperature sensor of the engine cooling system.

In this case there may be a letter “O” (for example, the code – JО -) in the case of open circuit and “C” in case of short circuit. Several faults are displayed on one line.

With self-diagnosis, four-digit error codes can be displayed. Their decoding:

To exit the self-test mode, press the pin button on the dashboard.

How to reset errors codes?

Input diagnostics (the self-test mode described above) allows you to remove from the memory a certain category of errors after their elimination. To do this, after the fault has been rectified, it is necessary to activate the self-diagnosis mode, by successively pressing the odometer button, display the error information on the display and keep the button pressed until the corresponding information disappears. After that, turn off the ignition.

Diagnostic connector

To carry out diagnostics of the onboard electronics Renault Duster by means of external instruments on the vehicle, a special diagnostic connector is provided for connecting external devices. The sixteen pin trapezoidal connector block is located on the right side of the front panel in the glove compartment and is closed with a decorative plastic cap. The locking clip is on the right, the cap is tilted to the left on the plastic hinge.

Scanning devices

Computer diagnostics is carried out with special devices that support the OBD 2 protocol.

Testing can be performed using a universal device (scanner) or software installed on a laptop or mobile device (tablet or smartphone). The automaker for Renault Duster recommends the following devices:

  • Professional dealer diagnostic device Renault CAN CLIP.
  • Universal diagnostic complex Renault Consul 3.
  • Compact scanner Autoboss PC Max.
  • Universal Compact Scanner Autocom Pro 2013.
  • Hardware instrument complex “Lambda-Metr”.
  • Professional scanner Vas-5054-A

Third-party devices, not originally intended for this model, and self-flashed by users, may incorrectly display an error code. For mobile devices on the Android platform, use the Torque program. This software not only detects errors codes, but also decodes the codes. With its help, it is also possible to reset the processor memory.

The sequence of diagnosis

  • Scanning of the onboard digital system Renault Duster is performed in accordance with a strictly defined sequence. The check of a separate system is called a
  • technological map:
  • Examination of the integrity of the electrical circuit, fuses, reliability of connectors, the presence or absence of a short circuit in individual branches.
  • Identification of electronic control units and the type of on-board digital system.
  • Recognition and interpretation of fault codes.
  • Reset errors.
  • Scan executive nodes.
  • Testing sensors.
  • Diagnosis of electrical circuits.
  • If necessary, reprogram the blocks.
  • Record results.

Scanning of electronic systems Renault Duster must be done no less than 30 thousand kilometers, as well as when even minor malfunctions in the units are detected and the characteristics of their functioning deteriorate. Diagnostics (and resetting errors if necessary) should be carried out when buying a car, after performing repair work, replacing working fluids, after long-term parking and before traveling long distances.

    My 2019 Duster has a fault code U 040 186, which my local garage advises has a Control Unit message ” Adblue no communication with canbus” The car is driving as normal but I have the particulate warning light on. Is it safe to continue driving and does anyone know how this is fixed and likely costs? I live on an island and have no access to a Dacia dealer. Thanks, Ian
